What We Do
Braking Away Irish Cycling Tours was set up by like-minded individuals with a passion for cycling and the outdoors. We offer our clients a chance to view the beauty of the west coast of Ireland along The Wild Atlantic Way on a fully supported cycle tour.
We cycle in groups of six and every tour has a dedicated cycle guide and support vehicle with all your needs catered for. Our guides have a wealth of information on the areas you will visit and have many a story to tell. Our vehicles are packed with drinks, protein bars and fruit to keep you going throughout the day.
All our hotels are hand picked to ensure you have the finest food and facilities. We take care of all luggage transfers and check ins, so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.
Our Guides
Adam Swain
Adam, where do we start with Adam? Spent 3 years running cycle tours in The Alps, raced go-carts at amateur level, snow boarder, training to be a mountaineer and a qualified engineer. And yes, he can cycle too.
He is a three-time member of Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux, (cycled Mont Ventoux by all three main access roads in one day).
A super all-rounder and loves Dad Jokes.
Gordon Geraghty
Braking Away Irish Cycling Tours was founded in 2021.
It came about when founder, Gordon Geraghty, decided to combine his life-long passion for cycling with his exceptional project management skills. Adding to that his personal experience in organising cycling tours across Europe, Braking Away Irish Cycling Tours was born.
When not organising tours, you'll find him somewhere in Europe with his bike, tent and a smile on his face.

All of our tours are fully supported. Hate punctures? So do we but don't worry, each tour will have a bicycle mechanic to help with any issues (even punctures). Our vehicles are packed with drinks, protein bars and fruit to keep you going throughout the day. We may even have the odd cream cake.
We want you to enjoy all Ireland has to offer. Stunning scenery, beautiful food and great company. We always cycle as a group so no matter what your fitness level, no one gets left behind.
Bike Rental
We understand not everyone wishes to bring their bike on holidays with them. So we have two categories of bicycle for rent. You can choose between city bike or road bike.
All our rentals this year are brand new models and have a superb spec that will guarantee you a trouble-free week in the saddle. Cost for the week is £170.
Giant Escape
With its lightweight ALUXX aluminium frame, confident handling and fast-rolling 700c wheels, Escape lets you ride any road or path in comfort and style.
Merida Speeder
Fast and lightweight, the Speeder range shares its genes with our road bikes. The geometry is sporty yet comfortable with a more upright seating position.
Trip Grading and Terrain

We want to make sure all our guests are comfortable on the Tour of their choice. We cycle as a group and 'no one gets left behind'. We want you to enjoy each day at your pace and enjoy all Ireland has to offer you. However, it is advisable to arrive with some level of fitness or cycling experience. Each Tour is graded and you can check out the km's and elevation of each day on the Tour pages.
We roll out each morning at 8:30 a.m. and cover 30/40km before lunch at 1 p.m. This gives us plenty of time for coffee stops and to take some photos on route. After lunch, we cover the remaining distance and try have you in your accommodation no later than 5 p.m. Our support vehicle is always near by and, if at any stage you wish to jump on board, you are always welcome.
We cycle on secondary roads and some backroads. Almost all have perfect surfaces for cycling. Our South West Tour has some beautiful climbs and even nicer downhills. But it's not all about hills. We have incredible coastal spins lined up for you with breathtaking scenery.
Our Mid West Tour is a lot flatter. It will pass through some undulating countryside but no major climbs. It is also slightly shorter in distance than our South West Tour.
The choice is yours. We want you to enjoy the stunning scenery, beautiful food and great company. So, if you are in any doubt, please contact us at any time and we would be happy to discuss your options.
